语言学

语言学 is the science of language — perhaps the most central and unique human ability. The linguistics minor at Centre is an interdisciplinary academic program that surveys a broad range of topics on human language and communication.

A perspective on world language use informed by the study of linguistics is a powerful element of an educated person’s knowledge base as a global citizen. 语言学 will help prepare students for careers in a wide variety of fields, including international business and public affairs, computer science, 咨询, 心理学, speech therapy and speech pathology, 市场营销, 新闻, 翻译, and teaching English as a foreign language, as well as qualifying them for the study of linguistics at the graduate level.

 

课程

All linguistics minors take the survey course, Introduction to 语言学. They also take three more courses from a range of offerings, such as Cognition, 历史 of the English Language, Hispanic 语言学, Linguistic Anthropology (Language, 文化, & Power), 媒体 and Politics, Symbolic Logic, and courses in Computer Science. In addition, they study two foreign languages and complete a capstone project in their senior year.
